Here is a workaround to install the Canon LBP2900 laser printer to a Mac. The LBP2900 model is a very economic laser printer (99 EUR / $145) that normally works with windows computers only. This workaround lets you install the printer nevertheless, it works for OS X 10.4.5 and up.

I have OS X 10.5 Leopard.
I went through your steps (and prayed through the all-jap CAPT driver install) and everything worked as described. I think in Leopard the Printer Setup Utility doesn't exist anymore, so I used the Print&Fax option in the System Preferences application The printer was recognized and the system picked up the CAPT driver (although I got stuck in beachball mode and had to restart) The printer is now apparently listed all right but can't print and the CAPT monitor says there's no connection - tried unplugging & plugging cycles, but no avail. Ideas?

MORE: I restarted my system and the CAPT Monitor now says the printer is ready to print (no connection error anymore) but it still won't print.
When I send a print job, the CAPT Monitor will flash 'Printing...' for a few seconds in the status line, then turn to 'Stopped' Plus - if I unplug the USB cable and re-plug back in, it will generate a 'Connection error' which won't go away when I re-plug it back in. Something with the USB stack?

Hi - I had the same problem as the person above - but seem to have found a solution.
Try installing the software from the canon website here and ensure you follow the install instructions to the letter: specifically, once you have installed your drivers and it asks to restart the computer, TURN YOUR PRINTER OFF, and restart. Then, open sys preferences, turn the printer back on, and install normally. This worked for me after 2 tries installing the printer and getting 'canon generic' as the driver, and no printing ability. I can now print from my mac (10.5.2) with this driver no problems (on a LBP 5200, but I would assume it would work for other models too...) Hope this helps! YMMV...

Hello!
I've tried to carefully follow the detailed tips for enabling a (used) Canon LBP2900 printer with my MacBook Pro (version OS X 10.6.7), by downloading different drivers (for both, LBP 2900 and 3000), from both the Japanese as well as the global Canon (English) sites, but no joy! Its not easy to follow all the instructions in Japanese correctly, with no English translation available! (I hope that's not the only site to get the correct software?!) I seriously need techy help. Many thanks!
